Position Purpose 

The Senior Accountant performs a variety of technical and administrative accounting work and applies accounting principles and methods in maintaining the fiscal records and systems of the Company.

Position Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks 

  • Reviews and audits payroll, accounts payable, receivables, grants, utility billing, and cash receipts and reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger.  Posts sub-ledgers to the general ledger and posts reconciling journal entries to balance and close the general ledger each month.  
  • Creates and maintains records on fund balances by the individual funds and computes fund balances. 
  • Supervises accounting and payroll staff.  
  • Performs a wide variety of general accounting functions including preparation, review, and approval of journal entries, month-end closing processes, year-end schedules and reports, quarterly and annual tax and other reports, debt schedules, independent audit coordination, assists auditors from other agencies, budget monitoring, and chart of accounts control.  
  • Prepares various financial reports and spreadsheets for restricted revenue accounts and enterprise and internal service fund operations.  
  • Provides and maintains excellent customer service relating to departmental responsibilities assisting managers, staff, vendors, and franchisees.  
  • Performs financial studies and analytical and statistical reports. Maintains subsidiary fixed asset and equipment reserve ledgers. 
  • Other duties as assigned   

Position Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred 
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience 
  • Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, organizational, and interpersonal skills 
  • Must have ERP AP system experience, Great Plains preferred 
  • Must have 1099 filing experience 
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in a payroll area working with multiple locations 
  • Self-motivated and ability to work both independently and within a team 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, intermediate to advanced excel skills 

  

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

The position requires working at a desk at the corporate office for periods of time up to eight hours.
